Guerrilla 24 – Winter 2012 Update
So, I’ve been wearing out my Guerrilla 24 jeans as much as possible since they arrived at my doorstep one balmy fall afternoon. I’ve decided to track my progress through this photo series. I can’t say there has been a tonne of creasing or fades since I’ve worn them out. They’ve held up quite well in all respects and the denim has softened up a bit, although there is a bit of minor dye loss in the lower cuff area.
I shot this series with a giant in the field of iPhonegraphy and photo illustration. His name is Dan Cristea, aka @Konstruktivist. If you have an eye for well thought out artistic photos, I highly recommend you look him up. After all, over 40,000 Instagram followers can’t be wrong.
Moonrise Kingdom – Trailer 1
I hated overnight camp. I felt left out from everything, maybe because I wasn’t suburban enough. I don’t know, but this looks fun. I’m excited to see what dry wit and chemistry Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola might dream up.
Jokers Of The Scene – JOT5 EP Preview
I got snared into going to the Gladstone Hotel for New Year’s Eve the other week and the only thing that made the stupid 40$ cover charge justifiable was that I would be seeing one of my favourite Canadian Fool’s Gold Record’s DJ teams rock the house. In anticipation of the night, I did some googling, and lo and behold, it turns out that the god damn interview that I did with them for AOL Spinner’s SXSW preview coverage a year back is quoted on their wiki page, aaand i’m the only journo quoted. You’d think that they’ve had some better press out there, but I’m not complaining :)
Well, it’s nice and all, but i think this new JOT5 EP album cover and album preview probably has a bit of a broader appeal.

Museum Secrets – Season 2
I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty excited about Museum Secrets – Season 2. Being an ancient history geek and Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations studies grad from U of T has its benefits when it comes to specialty TV these days. One of the great things about the Museum Secrets series is that they always have a heavy interactive/web portion to each episode. You can check out all the extras at www.museumsecrets.tv.
Glerups: Warm and Woolly, Especially When Wet
Glerups are an exciting product from the Scandinavian land of warm and fuzzies, a.k.a. Denmark. I quite like the vibrant, earthy, woolly tones that they’re available in. But what are they exactly? It’s a sock, it’s a shoe, it’s a combination of both that is ready for indoors and outdoor use and abuse.
Made from 100% wool, the makers of Glerups actually encourage users not to wear socks with them, exploiting the natural fibre’s natural self-cleaning attributes and their ability to keep warm even when damp, five times warmer than any other fabric even.
Glerups come in three styles, the slip-on, the shoe and the full on ankle boot. All models are lined with calfskin soles that provide whisper soft steps, and come in a wide variety of colours. So far, you can order yours at www.glerups.ca. I’d love to be able to see what a pair can do in this cold-snapping of a Toronto winter we’ve been experiencing.
Pingu’s THE THING
As a horror/gore buff I’m ashamed to admit that I don’t remember watching John Carpenter’s The Thing, or the shoddy remake of recent years, but I have reconnected with my favourite Swiss penguin mime, Pingu. This claymation remake is impossible to resist.
Active Child – High Priestess (CFCF Remix)
My favourite Montreal slo-disco producer CFCF has recently released this remix for Active Child, one of the more interesting groups on the post-dubstep/chillwave/borderline witch house groups to emerge from the Vagrant Records roster. Ok, he’s probably the only one. Listen to the end for the pan flute solo (!!) and check out the full album here on iTunes: http://bit.ly/youarealliseeitunes

Palladium Winter 2012
I scored my first pair of Palladium boots at Lavish & Squalor maybe 4 years ago. I loved them because they were leather, winter proof and looked like a really upscale and rugged Chuck Taylor. Sadly, my cat pissed on them one day a few years later, and they were pretty much donz0.
I haven’t seen anything that matched their quality since this 2012 seasonal release of both glossy, woolly and tactical winter ready boots. (Another anecdote, I was once told by a friend that Palladium’s were the only boots their private school allowed them to wear because of their innocuous design. I wonder if this new line would meet their standards?)
Knit-Lined Boot
Just in time for the cooler weather, heritage boot brand Palladium introduces the Knit-Lined Boot. An update on the brand’s iconic baggy silhouette, the Baggy Leather Knit is offered in two upper materials: a rugged “crazy horse” leather and a modern two-tone patent leather. As the boot becomes worn, the two-tone patent leather creases revealing the boot’s under-color— green for men and red for women. The boot’s knit sweater lining adds extra warmth and comfort, while a one-piece molded rubber outsole and thick-cut EVA sockliner provide increased durability.
PALLADIUM PAMPA TACTICAL BOOT
Palladium is also introducing an updated take on its Pampa Tactical boot for winter. The new design features bridle brown, premium grade, rubberized leather and an olive nylon that offers high abrasion resistance. As functional as they are fashionable, the side zippers allow for easy entry. Vents on the inside heel, combined with a Dri-Lex™ moisture wicking lining, allow for superior breathability. An added plaid lining gives the boots a visual pop of color.
